Research Communication Workshop - Distilling Your Message

January 22, 2016 | 9:00 am
OpenGrounds

Prepare for the UVA 3 Minute Thesis Competition and lean a tool that communications experts use to help clients organize their thoughts and to identify key points about their research. We will discuss how this tool, the Message Box, can be used to help structure a presentation, outline a proposal, or prepare for an interview. Participants will leave with a completed draft of their own message box. Registration opens January 11th at 9:00 am, space is limited. Register here.

Communication workshops will provide hands-on training for graduate students to learn the principles of communication and presentation, and to gain practice in using these critical skills. Workshops will include both instruction as well as time to practice and receive feedback. Participants will be encouraged to adapt the exercises to their intended audience (whatever that may be); however, emphasis will be given during instruction and practice to communicating to audiences outside of a participant's field.
